Indian and Japanese experts committed to raising the bar in Cardiovascular care !

Revolutionizing medical education by conducting workshops in Asia Pacific region.

Chennai , 1st June 2023 : Promed Hospital is proud to have conducted the GLOBAL Basics to Advanced CTO (Chronic Total Occlusion) Workshop, on 31st May and 1st June 2023. This exclusive event was conducted by Dr. Arun Kalyanasundaram, APCTO Club Director, India, and Dr. Wataru Nagamatsu, APCTO Club Director, Japan. The workshop gathered only a select group of 10 skilled promising cardiologists from around the globe and focused on teaching them advanced techniques in CTO. This workshop demonstrated ground-breaking proof of concepts that younger committed cardiologists could learn these vital skills and subsequently apply the same in the treatment of patients with complex heart conditions.

The distinguished attendees include cardiologists from various countries such as Malaysia, Nepal, Maldives, etc. They have expressed their gratitude to the Indian doctor for his commitment to raising the bar in cardiovascular care. By providing eligible doctors from all corners of the world with the opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge, these physicians can, in turn, transfer their expertise to their counterparts, benefiting thousands of patients suffering from heart disease globally.

Designed specifically for cardiologists with a minimum of 5 years of experience and having performed at least 500 PCIs (Percutaneous Coronary Interventions), this workshop catered to those with a strong interest in mastering complex angioplasties and seeking a structured approach to care for heart patients. The participants were meticulously chosen, ensuring the inclusion of only promising doctors genuinely passionate about advancing their skills and receiving a comprehensive education.

With a limited number of participants, the event provided an unparalleled environment for acquiring knowledge and expertise, surpassing the benefits of traditional larger conferences. The workshop provided these cardiologists an opportunity to watch global experts perform complex surgeries on CTOs in 4 patients. All 4 complex surgeries were performed successfully.

The event also provided a ringside view for the invited 10 cardiologists to witness the interaction of Dr. Arun Kalyanasundaram moderating the prestigious CTO LIVE AID event (Dr. AK moderated two complex CTOs performed in Japan and Belgium as part of this workshop). Notably, Dr. AK was the only invited moderator for this prestigious global event from India.

This workshop also provided attendees a chance to bring their own cases for discussion and strategizing alongside esteemed experts, maximizing the learning potential of each participant.

Participants expressed their admiration for the well-articulated syllabus, which facilitated the acquisition of essential skills in a coherent and accessible manner. The rigorous selection process underscored the trainers' dedication to ensuring that qualified cardiologists were given the opportunity to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to make a substantial impact in patient care. This commitment to excellence guarantees that patients receive the highest quality care from proficient and well-trained physicians.

The workshop encompassed a variety of engaging activities, including pre-lab case reviews and intervention planning, didactic content sessions, live case observations, and a stimulating dinner symposium. These components provided attendees with a comprehensive learning experience, fostering an environment of collaboration and knowledge sharing among peers.

"We are thrilled to have hosted this ground-breaking workshop at Promed Hospital," said Dr. Arun Kalyanasundaram. "By bringing talented and promising cardiologists from around the world, we aim to revolutionize the way CTO procedures are approached and treated globally. Our goal is to empower physicians with the necessary skills and knowledge to tackle complex cases, ultimately improving patient outcomes."

According to Dr. Wataru Nagamatsu, “We are seeing increasing heart problems throughout the world.  The complex nature of heart diseases requires skilled doctors.  Japan is a highly advanced country in terms of technology upgrades in medicine and we are fortunate to have collaborated with Dr. AK, a global leader in CTOs in helping conduct such a unique educational course and we thank him here at this forum for tirelessly supporting Cardiologists across the globe.”

Promed Hospital, a leading institution in cardiovascular care, is proud to have been at the forefront of this initiative, facilitating the exchange of expertise and advancing the standard of care for patients worldwide.
